Dog Car Sick | Car Sick Dog

If you have ever taken a new or young dog in a car then it is not unusual to find your dog car sick. Dog car sickness is usually caused by the
same reasons that we humans become car sick - particularly on long journeys.
For many dogs, the sickness feeling and resultant vomiting will disappear after the dog gets acustomed to travelling. So the more you take
your dog on car journeys the less likely you will be to find you have a car sick dog.
But, you may be wondering what you can do right now to prevent your dog being car sick. Well, it helps to know the cause of dog car sickness
or car sickness in general.
When a dog travels in a car it's body is subject to the motion of the car. If the dog has a fixed view in the car - maybe they are staring at
the floor or the back of a seat, then the body feels off balance and motion sickness can occur. To counteract this, make sure your dog has a
clear view out of the window of the car and can see its environment moving. The brain can then work out that the dog is moving and won't feel off
balance to the same extent.
Providing some fresh air can help reduce any feelings of sickness that your dog may be experiencing due to travelling in the car, so make sure
you have a window down partially to give them free air flow.
Its also not a good idea to put your dog in the car if they are just after a heavy meal - unless they are a frequent traveller.
Build up your dog's tolerance to travelling by taking them on short journeys regularly and then increase the journey time bit by bit.
