Guard Dog Training Equipment.
We've all seen those movies where a 'bad guy' is running away and the guard dog runs after him and either grabs him by the arm or by the butt.
What kind of guard dog training equipment do you need to produce similar results?
Certain types of dog are more suitable to guard dog training than others. Typical breeds are German Shepherds (Alsations) and Dobermans. Guard
dog training should only be carried out by a professional trainer.
Guard dog training equipment can include the following items:
Training Muzzles:
A training muzzle can be used to prevent the dog biting anything at all. It can also be useful to keep this on the dog when the animal is
taken out of his usual guarding area to ensure no innocent individual is harmed.
Bite Sleeves:

A bite sleeve is a very typical item of guard dog training equipment and consists of a padded sleeve that is pulled on over or under normal
clothing. These types of sleeve are also commonly used for police dog training.
During training the padded arm is usually extended to ensure this is what the dog grabs hold of. Some sleeves are fitted with an extra
protection bar to prevent the guard dog from chewing into the sleeve.
There are many different grades and styles of bite sleeve available.
Bite Suits:
For complete body protection, a bite suit is recommended. These come in different padding grades. The heavier the suit, the
more protection but less mobility. Again these are commonly used by independent security teams, the military and the police.
The person wearing the suit is commonly called a decoy and like all guard dog training, the decoy should be professionally trained and
experienced. However, for more inexperienced decoys the heavier suit is usually a good choice until more experience is gained.
High quality suits will last longer and not be badly effected by the actual teeth of the dog.
Training Tugs:
Training tugs are usually soft material toys that get the dog into the habit of biting and holding on. These can be used from a very early
stage with the dog. Once the dog has a hold of the toy, the trainer will tug on the toy and this will teach the dog to keep his grip on the
toy.
The trainer can use a selection of commands with the toy to train dog's responses.
Where To Buy:
All guard dog training equipment mentioned, plus a selection of other training tools can be purchased from Dresslers.
