How Can I Tell If My Dog Is Pregnant.

One question a lot of visitors to our site seem to be looking for information on is: how can I tell if my dog is pregnant? There are a few
tell tale signs that will help you determine this.
Amongst these tell tale signs are, you may find that your dog's appetite will change, she may be more picky about her food. You may also
notice some behavioral changes. However the most obvious sign will be that her stomach will start to swell up. Dogs are pregnant for about 63
days so it won't take long for you to notice her increase in size. Some dogs will also get sick and throw up - usually on a daily basis for a
while during the pregnancy.
If you want to be absolutely certain whether your dog is pregnant or not then you should make a visit to your local vet. Just like humans,
they can do an ultrasound check and tell you for certain if your dog is pregnant. If your dog has a swollen stomach for any other reason then
your vet will also be able to check out the cause of this and advise you if it is anything serious.
There is also a blood test that will detect the hormone 'relaxin', that is produced in pregnant dogs but is not found in non-pregnant
dogs. Again, you will be able to get this from your vet's surgery.
If you have never had a pregnant dog before it would be very useful to get some advice from your vet on what to expect during the time leading
up to your dog going into labor and what to expect at the time your dog is giving birth.
